How to Score High in JAMB CBT

Understanding the JAMB Scoring System

JAMB UTME is scored out of 400 marks — 100 per subject. Most competitive university courses require a score of 200 or above. Scoring 280+ puts you in the top tier of candidates.

Subject-by-Subject Strategy

Use of English (target: 75+/100)

Read widely — newspapers, novels, and past comprehension passages. Learn common vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. This subject should be your highest scorer.

Mathematics (target: 70+/100)

Master the core formulae. Practice under timed conditions every day for at least 30 minutes. Never skip a question — use the process of elimination.

Sciences

For Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, identify topics that appear in more than 60% of past papers and prioritise those. Use flash cards for definitions and formulas.

Time Management in the Exam Hall

You have 2 hours for 180 questions — that is less than 40 seconds per question. Skip difficult questions on the first pass and return to them later. Never spend more than 90 seconds on a single question.
